Each of those buildings had a good sized town's electrical supply in them. Lots of transformers and they go off just like that when their electrolytes overheat.

I did some work with a lightbulb company. I talked to the engineer about how long you could make an incandescent bulb last. "Forever" he said. "Would it be expensive?" I asked. "No." he said, "but why would we?"
